Ugandan Traders In Juba Complain Of Harrasment By Sudanese Citizens
13 July 2010 - (Uganda) – In Uganda, angry demonstrators gathered outside the GOSS liaison office in Kampala on Tuesday. They accuse Sudanese citizens of harassing Ugandan traders in Juba.
The acting Head of the GOSS mission in Uganda, Ador Akok, described the situation to SRS on Tuesday from Kampala.
[Ador Akok]; “We are now in the office, When I came this morning, I found police around our office. Since the traders didn’t write an official letter to inform us that they are coming to our office, the police and security denied them entry into our premises. The police were deployed around our consulate when the Ugandan administration noticed that there was demonstration going on. We have told those people on several occasions that if you lose your property or money in southern Sudan, produce the necessary documents so that we’ll be able to sort you out, but they didn’t provide any document and they never returned back to us.”
Ugandan traders have often complained of harassment and insecurity in southern Sudan.
