Unity State Authorities Order Demolition of Residential Areas For Proper Surveys

10 January 2011 - (Bentiu) - Unity state authorities have issued a decree for the demolition of some residential area in Bentiu town.

The council of ministers in Unity state on Monday ordered the demolition of highly populated areas such as Hai - Ingath, Kordapdep, Dera A and Dera B to pave way for proper survey.

However, the state Minister for Infrastructure and Urban Development, Diew Charoaw Kuel said that the government must first provide water and electricity in new location.

The order has not been well received by the residents as they cited flooding in the new area during rainy season and a high cost of relocation.

The demolition process is expected to begin by the end of this month.
