Workshop on Post Referendum Sudan Held In Nairobi

28 February 2011 – (Nairobi) –A two day workshop which began on Monday is taking place in Nairobi, Kenya to find ways in which southern Sudan and northern Sudan should boost economic relations.

A representative of the United Nations Economic Commissions for Africa Professor Abdullah Hamdok spoke to SRS on Monday explaining the importance of the workshop.

[Abdullah Hamdok]: “The aim of this conference is to address issues of post-referendum in southern Sudan. We are expecting this conference to address many issues such as the economical, security and social overlapping issues and addressing as well the issue of resources. The most important issue expected to be addressed is the possibility of reaching joint institutions between the two countries in the future. There are many issues concerning the two parties, among them the issues of wealth, the intermingling ethnical and social area. This conference comprises in its membership, a group of competent and intellectual persons from different parts of Africa, and they have very rich experience, that could help in addressing these contentious issues and come up with recommendations towards these issues.”

The conference is organized by the Council for Development of Social Research in Africa in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa UNECA and the African Research and Resource Forum
